New tricks

I remember as a kid taking our sleeping bags, blankets, mattresses, or anything that gave optimal sliding capabilities and using it as a mechanism to fly down our stairs. When we moved to our new house my first thought on the stairs reverted to this fun past time and my next thought was how dangerous it looked for Sammie and Eston.

Today they figured out this joy on their own. While I was getting ready I heard Sammie say, "K Eston, now slide." I walked around the corner to find them doing this. Sammie sitting on the stairs with the blanket on top of her (not under) and Eston had it wrapped around his waist (again, not under him). Oh how proud was I at the effort they had put into that game.

I, of course couldn't let them continue to do it wrong, and I kind of wanted to relive that moment again. So I took a few turns to show them the proper way of doing it. They still haven't figured it out and it is better that way. We may have been late to dance, but at least it was for a dang good reason.

Sorry baby, that you missed out. We will try again when you get home from work.

You gotta love their effort. That is so cute. Well worth being a little late for dance!

Seriously, girl, you are almost 30. This reminds me of the time you were an EFY counselor and climbed on top of the cabinets. You were sitting on top of the fridge by the time you were 18 months. I expect nothing less from your children.

I loved doing that in old sleeping bags!! what a cool mom you are to do it with them and not be so concerned about being on time to dance. I LOVE that!

I do remember doing the same thing when I was a kid, and now as an adult the same thing has gone through my mind of the dangerousness of it. Althoug it didn't happen on the stairs we would still use silky blankets and sleeping bags on the floor to slide around on and this is where the dangerous memrories keep me from teaching my kids. I slid through a glas door and cut up myself. I think I was five, or 7? Anyway, so be careful! (oh, and don't store your broken screen/glass door at the bottom of the stairs!)
