Sammie's big first . . .

I don't know who has been more excited for this day, Sammie or me. I have been so excited for Sammie to go to school because it is something that she has asked me about everyday for the last year. I am also excited because I have only 3 kids for that time frame which will hopefully lighten my load a little bit and give a chance to spend more one on one time with Eston.
Sammie was very specific on what her backpack needed to look like. Once that was picked out we just needed to wait for the day to arrive.

I obviously made the mistake in thinking that Sammie wouldn't have a preference of her attire. The night before I pulled something cute out of her drawers. Sammie immediately let me know that she was not wearing what I had picked. She went to her closet and pointed at her new fall clothes and told me exactly what out of that pile she would be wearing. She even had her hairstyle picked out. Unfortunately, I have 3 other kids and didn't have time to do the specified style. She was kind enough to let me do something quick.



Sammie was so excited to go out the door this morning. Eston was not so excited and kept asking me if it was time to go pick Sammie up yet.



Sammie and I headed over to Miss Jenn's house for her first day. The parents were invited to stay for the first 30 minutes or so. Sammie wanted a pictures with Miss Jenn and then told me that I was free to go home to Eston and the twins. I told her that I was going to stick around for a little while and she rolled her eyes at me.



I found it funny that a lot of kids were kicking, screaming, and crying for their parents to stay or to leave with them. Sammie kept giving me looks to let me know that I could leave and that I was embarrassing her. Little does she know that this is the beginning of many times that I get to be the embarrassing mom.



Miss Jenn gave all the kids homework to bring back with them on the first day of school. Sammie was supposed to draw a picture of herself and bring it back to class. I was very impressed with her mad skills. FYI Sammie started with the hair and then at the end added the face. Sammie dreams of having long hair like her Aunt Kim and so this is what Sammie would look like with Aunt Kimmy's hair.



Miss Jenn was nice enough to tell Eston that after preschool he can come and pick up his homework from her. Eston wore his backpack all morning. We went to the grocery store and then to school and he had his backpack on the whole time.



When Sammie came up the stairs from Preschool she was beaming. She keeps asking me if it is school day again, and when can she go back to see Miss Jenn and Miss Danielle. This is going to be a fun year for her.

Random Milestones and Moments

To start with I just have to share this funny picture of Sammie, I was going about my normal morning routine when Sammie walked into my room like this. I just busted out laughing. I don't know if this stems from when I was pregnant with the twins, or from seeing many pregnant women at the park in the last two weeks.



One afternoon last week, we went to my mom's house to play in her pool. The kids had been begging me to swim. Since I feel like I would be a negligent parent if I took 4 kids to a public pool by myself, I felt this would be a manageable alternative.

This was the twins first time swimming. Lucy loved it, she loved to splash, get her face splashed, crawling on the grass, the whole nine yards. Logan was a little bit more weary. He wasn't quite sure. If I set him on the grass he would freak out and need to picked up immediately. He did, however, love hitting the water. Logan wasn't sure about the splash that hit his face, but it didn't stop him.



Sammie and Eston have been participating in some Summer program classes the last few weeks. While there the twins have been spending a lot of time in there stroller. I decided to be a fun mom and try them on the swings.



The both loved it and protested when I took them out. It will be nice when they are older and can put them side by side without worrying that they are going to fall out.



About a month and a half ago, Logan got his first haircut. My mom was not happy because she thought his curl was going to be gone. Luckily, those curls are going no where. Logan did pretty good.

Lucy is a very happy and interactive baby. She has developed this face lately that we call her squishy face. When she gets really excited she will create the face below and then after a few seconds will peek to see if you are laughing at her. She is infectiously happy.



Lucy learned to do two things this week. 1.) Lucy learned to bring herself into a sitting position. This has only been a matter of time. She has been close for a while but until yesterday hadn't completed the task. 2.) Lucy also figured out how to pull herself up to furniture. This also happened yesterday. Lucy pulls herself up and then laughs because she is so proud of herself. She is even starting to try and walk along the couch. She hasn't quite figured out how to get down without falling. I guess practice makes perfect.

Both babies started crawling/creeping about a month ago. Lucy crawls on all four and and Logan army crawls. It is always fun to see who wins the baby race when they are really interested in an object. Now we just need to get Logan motivated on sitting by himself.

It's like Riding a bike . . . and other stuff

We took the kids for a walk this week. We told the older kids that they could ride their bikes. Sammie was so excited. Part way through our walk, Matt decided to help Sammie learn how to work her brake. The girl just doesn't get it. Sammie could apply the brake if she pedaled for 5 seconds, but anything longer than that and she would forget and start to freak out. This is going to talk a while to master. It was fun however to watch father/daughter enter this stage of life. I am trying to figure out when she grew up.



On a different note, the twins have had a few firsts in the last week or so. As of May 23rd, they no longer share a bed. They are just shy of being 7 months. When we would go check on them, we would find something similar to this. . .



They kept waking each other up and would kick one another in the face. Currently Lucy sleeps in the crib and Logan is now in the port-a-crib, until we figure out a more permanent solution.

Both babies have learned to sit on there own. They aren't to steady yet, but are learning fast. Logan has also begun to creep. He will widdle his way to whatever toy he has his eye on. Lucy is slowly learning but for now rolls to her desired destination.
